What goes into a re-roof
The old covering is stripped back to the rafters. New breathable membrane goes on, then new battens, then the slates or tiles, with the ridge, hips and lead flashings where the roof meets walls and chimneys.
What sits under the tiles is what keeps water out when a tile does fail, which is why it's all replaced, not just the part you can see.
